It is now crunch time. Correction. It was crunch time last week. We stepped up to the challenge against a solid West Virginia team, but shot ourselves in the foot (not literally, Plaxico) in the blowout loss at Syracuse on Sunday. With two regular season games remaining, we're in "dece" shape. We can't afford to have any more of these "not ready to play" games. Fortunately for us, the games remaining are against two of the lowest teams in the Big East standings. However, every remaining game must be approached with the utmost seriousness.
Here is what we can expect: South Florida is not a good team by any means, but they definitely have some players, most notably Dominique Jones (18 points per game). They're a team that lacks depth, especially with several key injuries. They're a team that beat Marquette. (Remember how we lost to Marquette by eleventy billion?) This game, however, is not about South Florida. This game is about whether or not we want to go to the Big Dance or not. If we come to play with the passion of a desperate team trying to prove ourselves, then we should win in impressive fashion, party like rock stars in Tampa, and come home to ready ourselves for Seton Hall. If we go into the game thinking it's just a gimmie against a struggling 3-13 Big East team, and we go away from our game plan of giving the man-child a touch every possession and kick it out to the guards if the inside shot isn't there, then we could very easily struggle and possibly leave the sunshine state headed for the NIT.
From here on out, every game is judgment day. We control how favorably we will be judged. Prediction: we win 63-49, and Yancy Gates comes home a father.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! THE ANGER SHARKS ARE SWIMMING IN! THE ANGER SHARKS ARE SWIMMING IN!
ReplyDeleteWords cannot describe how upset and disappointed in the Bearcats. I feel as if I deserve my money back from the game, even though I didn't attend it and was only able to see the last minute on TV. I suppose we're content with mediocrity, even though our performance tonight was hardly mediocre. Mediocrity went out the door early on tonight.
Is being on the verge of being selected for the NCAA Tournament not motivation enough? Is being apart of the team that takes a big step forward in UC's return to glory not enough? What is wrong with this team? They play with no heart, with no purpose. This season is certainly an improvement upon the previous few years, but the attitude and effort I'm seeing in most of these games is not what I want to continue to see in the upcoming years. We're on our way, but we most certainly are not there, and until this team stops crapping on our hearts with their lack effort and motivation, they won't arrive anytime soon.
absolutely pathetic, i couldnt believe how poorly we played in a game that meant so much for us and so little for USF now we are most likely the 9 seed and id say we have to at least win 3-4 games in the BE tourney to make it, ahhhh
ReplyDeleteYeah, this really wasn't the way that UC wanted to end the season. They played with no passion, with no heart, with no soul. My guesses are that Cronin is going to complain about how they "don't play with any heart" or that he "couldn't get them excited for the game." How about addressing the 2-3 zone, Cronin, and why you did it? I'm not saying that cost the game, but why would you try that at this point in the season? I can't comment too much, because I didn't watch the game, but I guess the B.East just caught up to our guys.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure we are headed to the NIT with that piss poor performance of basketball last night. At this point I agree with Scott, we have to win 3+ in the BEast Tournament. I love the Cats just as much has the rest of you but with this team this year, I just don’t see it happening. We would have to beat a UConn, a Pitt, or an L-ville and that is only after getting by our achilles heel in providence.
ReplyDeleteI am not angry with this team, I am just disappointed with them. And since you all have parents you know that is always way worse.
Words can't even describe the game last night, literally, I sat there watching the game and couldn't even say anything because we looked like a bunch of grade-schoolers who don't know a thing about basketball. What happened to the team that put everything on the table for WVU? I would like to see a cincy team that actually wins clutch games one right after another, not just one random game, and maybe that'll happen in the B.E. tourney. But seriously, how do you lose to a team with 20 losses?
